Saturday and the weekend

Garrett and Grandma Sandy clowning
around at Chic- fil- A last week!!

Saturday has arrived and here we are trying to get ready for company that will be coming in tomorrow night!! We are finishing up washing, house is cleaned up and well we are about ready!!

Mikey is working today!! I hate it when he has to work on Saturdays but lately since this darn economy, well then we are having to accept it.

Yesterday Mother and I went to my orthopedist!! My knee is still giving me problems after 9 week since my operation.... Plus my plantar fascitis also is killing me!! Mother, bless her heart, has also been suffering for a long time now with her knees and legs. Mother had tons of x-rays and then he talked to her about some shots that she can get to help her knees. They are in a series of 3 injections over 3 weeks. She got a cortisone injection and it has helped her one knee but now of course the other one is aching!!

Me, well he said that "sometimes" (and of course I am in the sometimes) people get what the doctor's call a jelly knee. I have a hard time if I sit with it bent and then try to get up..I almost fall. He gave me a cortisone injection in my knee and also one in my plantar fascia...OH!! They told me that one would hurt and well it did..right in the arch of my right foot. It has taken about 1/4 of the pain away so that is something I guess. I just love falling apart like this!! I tell you it is just more fun than I have ever had.

Got back from Curves this morning where I sweat like a hog!! smile!! I have exercised this knee until I don't know what else to do with it. I am so trying to get it to heal but maybe i am going to just have a jelly knee..hopefully it is strawberry!!

We went out and had steak last night. First time in months and it tasted really good!! Yummy!! I really love a good steak!!

We had quite a display of lightning and pretty clouds last night. I tried to get pictures but i know my camera is just too slow for that.

WE have so many many pine trees here so it
is hard to shoot around them!!

Today is a beautiful day...dad in on the front porch hitting flies!! Keeps that population down a little bit. I watered flowers this morning and see that my gardenias are about a thing of the past!! I always hate it when they all die. Next will be the hibiscus!! They are really a beautiful display of color in my little flower garden.

Hoping that you are having a great weekend so far!! We have church tonight and then company comes tomorrow so those are the plans for now so far. It will be a full week this coming week for sure...keeping busy does not seem to be a problem here any longer....

Happy Saturday!!

Thursday Once again

Maddie and I goofing around at Claire's!!

This Thursday is a lot nicer than last week at this time. We were having Noah's Flood for sure plus remember I locked myself out of my car in the rain!! DUH!! That is me in a nut shell..always doing something stupid!! smile!!

This Thursday was our last study in Daniel and I really will miss it until this coming Fall then we will be starting a NEW study!! Wonder what God has in store for us? That is the exciting thing..waiting to see!!

Yesterday i got my folks out and we ran all over the place!! Got the car's oil all changed and it also got a good bath and a good cleaning on the inside too!! Took a little ride downtown Savannah and showed off our pretty city..cobblestones and all!! Did you ever ride in a car on the cobblestones? ROUGH is not the word..Bouncy maybe!! After that we ended up at my nail shop or I mean NOT mine but the one that I go to..Tommy and Helen. Mother wanted Dad to get a pedicure....so I thought I need one too so Dad and Daughter had their toes all prettietty up yesterday!! I got my favorite..."I'm Not really a Waitress" OPI color and Dad opted out of polish (good for him)...

Dad & I relaxing...

He will be 91 in August and had never done this before. Mother and I had gone last Thursday and she got her first one too..so now they can say that they have had a pedicure. Now I need to get Mother to have a massage...she has never had one of those either!! There is always a first time!!

After the pedicure we stopped at Sonic and got a Creamy Strawberry Slush!! Yummy!! Pretty good stuff!!

We were gone about 4 hours and I think I pretty much wore both of them out!! I know that I did because I was worn out too!! Smile!! Our daughter and kids stopped over to visit with us after school making it a good day!!

UPDATE: Hubby is finally getting work!! He is getting kitchens again!! We are so happy about this..There just might be a light of finances at the end of the tunnel!! We have just put this all in the Lord's hands. I have learned that God is in control and He will take care of you..Continue what you have always done and just don't worry!! Hang in there and in time God shows you that He was always there whether you knew it or not!! I think that He has taken us through this to teach me a lesson..one that I hope I remember!! Mike is happy to be back at work too. I think that he will always have to do something to keep himself busy. In a few days he will be signing up with Medicare..WOW!! He will be 65 in September...We first met when we were both 14 and now here he is pushing 65!! That is a lot of years to know one another!! But some of the best years of my whole life!! Thank you God!!

We have also taught Dad how to bowl with the Wii. You should see him. He finally made 2 strikes and a spare and was so proud of himself!! He thinks that he cannot learn anymore well we just proved him wrong.

That's it..You are now caught up..Aren't you just thrilled? I have so missed talking to so many of you...Hope all is well in your world...

Honoring OUR WWII Veteran

Today is the day that we honor our veterans that have served in so many wars in our nation!! My dad, Dale is now almost 91 years old!! He served in WWII all those years ago while Mother was at home having me!! What an honor it is to still have our dad with us.

Both he and Mother are staying here this summer with Mike and I here in Georgia!! We are having a great time!!

Dad does not hear very well and usually is about 2 conversations behind when we are talking in a group!! He has new hearing aides but for some reason nothing really helps him. He just does not understand much when watching a movie or any kind of drama on the TV. But he does try!! We all went to see the movie, "Night at the Museum II" this past Saturday!! I did not sit close to him but I am sure he was quite surprised at being there. He had not been in years!!

Dad worries so much about almost everything but he is still with us and that is the most important thing.

While in WWII he was wounded twice leaving my mother to worry about him while trying to take care of me!! What an awful world it was...but really it is still just the same only then it was my parents!!

Today I hope that we will stop and honor those that have served in our armies...all throughout our wars...Today as my dad was sitting waiting on us to get groceries. He had several people stop and shake his hand. He is always astounded when people do this but we need to make it a point to thank our veterans. Many of them will not be around in a few years!!

This is my dad with his Purple Heart
hat on

Have a great Memorial Day!!

Thursday Thoughts

We are getting rain, rain and more rain!! It just will not stop!! This has been going on for days and days now!! I know that soon when it quits and the HOT weather comes back we are going to be wondering WHERE the rain went!! Honestly though, I have not seen this much rain in the longest time!! WHEW!! Any day now it can stop and give us ONE day of sun!! I am always so sleepy!!

This morning we had Mike stay with Dad while I took Mother with me to my Precepts Bible Study at our church. We only have two more weeks in studying Daniel so i wanted her to come and see how much fun it is.

It was raining in sheets so i dropped her off at the front door so she would stay dry. I went to park the car. I got my umbrella out and stuck it out the door only to have it turn wrong side out. Here I am trying to get my bible and study notebook out of the car with my purse, umbrella turned up side down...I thought I would go get in our trunk and get a better umbrella. I had my hands full and the rain was making me as wet as I had been only a few hours earlier when I took my morning shower. First mistake, I laid my purse in the trunk because of the inside out umbrella and my hands being full. I got the better umbrella and just as I was shutting the trunk, I realized that my purse was in there...car keys and all!! Oh my what a dumb thing to do. Had to call Mike (fortunately he was not far away today on a job) and he had to come and unlock for me..What a sweetie!!

We had a good bible study. Mother and I left early because we needed to use the time that we had to be away. I took her to my nail place and she had her first pedicure!! She was so happy with that. I got my nails done. She finally decided to get a manicure also. She has raved about it all day. Now she thinks that Dad should go!! I think he would like it!!

Mother getting her nails and toes done!!

Off to work this afternoon in the rain!! I was surprised at all the ladies that came in with this nasty weather!! What a lousy Georgia day!! Home now, supper over...Great to have Mother here to make it!! WHEW!! This could be a good thing!! smile!!

Pajama time now so will head to find them...Hope all is great and dry in your part of our great world..

Sunday Sunday!!

My Mother and her GREAT granddaughter..teaching her to knit!!

It just keeps getting darker and darker outside and my head just keeps pounding more and more as the storm approaches. My head always acts up when the weather changes. Yes, I know I need to be laying down but Maddie is here this afternoon and learning how to knit with my mother..Her great grandmother!! How cool you say!!

I taught our oldest granddaughter, Brie how to knit last year and now Mother is working with our youngest granddaughter...

Today is also Brieanne's 20th birthday!! Yeap I have a 20 year old granddaughter. I have been a grandmother for 20 years now!! WOW!! Wanta feel old...?? Well I do!! I remember her birth so well...After she was born she just laid on that warming table and spread her legs and her arms like she was so happy to finally be out of there. She was not crying just relaxing!! Funny the things that you remember. I also remember holding her and crying!! What a blessing that was!! I was so happy to have her as our first granddaughter with many more to come. Each and every one is so very special to me!! Happy Birthday to our sweet and lovely Brieanne Nicole!!

This is Brie on her first birthday!! Tearing up her cake!!

We went to Cracker Barrel the other night to eat with our daughter, hubby and their two children..Took some pictures while we were there that I will share with you ...

Saturday Things

My dad and Mike last week coming home from Illinois

This day has flown by!! Got up early to go to Curves to work. I do not mind Saturdays but of course, I would not want to work them EVERY Saturday!! We had a good morning except for one event with computers. Computers sometimes can be real fun when they stop working!! That was what happened this morning!! We made it through it okay!!

Went and got a movie for Mother and I to watch. She does not get to see many movies so i thought that while they are here we will get her updated on a few movies!! Today I brought home, "The Secret Life of Bees". This makes my 4th time of watching it with someone. I think it is a good movie and have not minded watching it all of these times so far... Mother enjoyed it. Dad misses a lot. He does not concentrate on movies but game shows is another thing!!

We went to 1st service tonight at church. This is Mike's weekend to work both services so we are at home now while Mike is doing yet another service.

The sermon tonight was on marriage and how it can be a good one or if not watched after and cared for it can go bad really quick. I did enjoy this one as I have been through all of the stages that Cam went over tonight so understand how things work. By this time I had better understand these things. He called everyone up front that had been married 20 years of more. Then asked for those of us to raise our hands that had been married 40 years or more!! My hubby was in the back doing his job so I had to raise my hand by myself...My mother went up with me too. They have been married 65 years now!! They are heading for 70!! Isn't that something!!?? Married to the same man for that long!! I only hope that Mike I make that!! I would be so thrilled.

Well not much else here. Just a quick day with a little rain along the way but mostly a sunny and pretty day here.

Tuesday Tidbits

We have once again arrived at Tuesday!! We have been home now for 2 days and I think I am still tired from that trip!! It was a good trip but just about wore me out this time.

All is going great here with my parents. Dad is doing great!! We asked him if he knew what state he was in today and he said..."I am in a bad state"...meaning how he feels about himself. We laughed with him and finally he said.."Sure, I am in Georgia!" Mother says she thinks he is doing better than he did at home.

I got them out this morning to go get some groceries at good ole' Walmart...Then we went to my daughter's house for lunch!! She was happy to have them here!! I think that Dad walked more today than he has in a long time. He just needs to walk more...

I have some of the prettiest flowers here and also when we were traveling I took some pretty pictures..Here are a few:

These are so pretty!! We found these 3 flowers at one of the campgrounds during our trip in Tennessee...The very top picture of the red lily is growing right here in my garden!! WE have been getting some much needed rain and the flowers are really looking nice now!! Can you tell I LOVE FLOWERS!!

Hope everyone is doing great!! I am so behind in reading and in so much else too...sorry guys!! I need to get back. I have also been working at Curves so that takes up time...I think I am getting a bit too busy!!

Saturday, I think!!

All this week I have been one day ahead of myself so I am thinking that today is Saturday...everyone tells me it is..

We did not go to church tonight like usual because we are in a campground tonight in Tennessee...We went up to Illinois this past Thursday. We went to pick up my parents to bring them back to Georgia to stay with Mike and I for the summer!! We had great weather going then ran into some rain...God was really with us because we thought we had better just keep going...So glad that we did because we just missed all of those tornadoes that went through Southern Illinois.

We got to Illinois, loaded up my parents and started out this morning early. Once we got into the Southern part of Illinois, we saw the after effects of that bad storm that went through there..it was awful!!

We saw big trees pulled up by the roots!! We heard tonight on TV that they had a lot of tornadoes go through..It really was a mess through there. We were just thankful that we had just missed that awful storm. God was really with us and kept us going...

Today we have had good weather until right before we stopped to camp!! Then it started raining...Now tomorrow we just hope that we will have good weather..We plan on getting home tomorrow..

Home Home Sweet Home!! Right?

Hope ya'll have had a great weekend!! Take care and enjoy!!

Just One Gardenia

Yesterday when I was outside watering my thirsty plants, I noticed that my FIRST gardenia had bloomed...They have such a fragrance that i just cannot resist..Similar to my Illinois favorite of lilacs!!

I just could not let that little lone gardenia hang there so i clipped it off and brought it in to my cute little glass vase!!

This morning as I was in the kitchen I thought how fragrant just one little gardenia can be..Just one..It does not take a bouquet..but "Just One gardenia".

That made me think about being a Christian. We need to show the light of our Lord no matter if sometimes it is JUST one...us that is doing the shining. We ourselves, if we are true to God, have that fragrance that God gives us as his people.

We can show this to others, to our neighbors, to those in the stores, to our friends and most especially to our families!! God puts in us his spirit..His HOLY SPIRIT on the day that we ask him into our lives...He gives us that special fragrance that only we can us for Him.

Today i want to be like my one little lone gardenia and be fragrant for God in all that I do!!

Busy Saturday

This is the lousy weather that we left!!

I have a myriad of things that I should be doing at this minute but I wanted to sort of remember today!! Today is an anniversary of sorts...we have lived here in Savannah now for 8 whole years!! Wow!! We moved from Illinois here on May 2, 2001....What a long trip that was. Mike and I were in the moving van with all that we owed behind us plus pulling our car. Our son in law was driving behind us in Mike's truck with it filled all up too.

This is the cute little home that we left!!

We arrived here in the early evening only to find that we had no electricity or water!! Now you know Savannah..HOT!! We left the moving van and went over to our daughter's home and slept on the couches. Next day we came over here to start moving things up all of these 14 steps. Still no air and no water. I used everything that I could get my hands on that was in a squirt bottle ...It was so blasted HOT!! Our neighbor, Tootsie, came over with iced tea...wow!! You cannot even know how great that was!! We were so hot and thirsty and grimy....

So now after 8 years we are all settled in and have a FOR SALE sign out front just seeing what we can do. This house with the steps is about killing both of us...but I still love living here...I love my neighbors and my flowers...

Better get busy. I worked at Curves this morning so am behind for this day but it is fun to talk with the women there...

Planting Day

Digitalis..supposed to attract humming birds!!

I have been wanting to plant something for weeks now!! Finally yesterday I just went to Walmart and picked up 3 nice plants. I wanted some tomatoes but they were mostly picked over because most people already have them growing. I talked to a lady this morning that already has some..wow!! I know things start faster here. I have just not had the extra money to do this and well I just needed to plant.

I bought a rose plant that I have seen growing all over Savannah right now. I think i mentioned about the roses that look like the old fashioned ones that I remember. Those are called Knock Off Roses. I planted it this morning along with a digitalis and also a red mandevilla. Boy, I hope that they live!! The rose plant is supposed to be very hardy and loves sun. It is also disease resistance!! Course it has never been taken care of by this lady either!!

My sweet smelling rose

I simpley love plants and flowers. I know that I get it honestly. My great grandmother had some of the prettiest lilies of the valley and bleeding hearts. Still some of my favorites. I tried to plant a bleeding heart bush here and well it did not work. My grandmother always had geraniums so I always have a plant of two of red ones on the porch!! My mother always planted everything. Guess I inherited this need!!..don't ya think? I always wanted to be able to have a landscaped home with all kinds of flowers that had little paths through them...Maybe a bench sitting by a large magnolia or honey suckle plant. That is not going to happen for me in this life time. So I am hoping that God has a beautiful place for me in heaven with flowers everywhere!! Just think ....there will be no pain so you will be able to bend down, on your knees and just plant and take care of them to your heart's content!! What a paradise that would be for me...

For the past two years now our mall has put up flags all around the perimeter l. I think it is so pretty and just makes me proud to be an American. I took a picture this morning...If you open it up big, it looks prettier..

They go all around the mall and just make things so pretty and festive...Memorial Day is coming up!!

Our cat, Annie has a thing with cat nip! She goes just a little bit crazy over it..Rolls in it and just gets a little glassy-eyed..then runs all over the place..It is a kitty drug for sure..Fun to watch her!!

She is sitting on my lap now trying to get her bit of happiness for right now!! I really love cats. They are so easy to take care of and really do not demand much out of you..Just a little food and a lot of love.

Off to work in the morning!! This afternoon I have to go pick up the grands and then get homework done. Madison will probably not have any and Garrett may..Sometimes on Fridays they do not have any..That was always when I had so much..weekends!!

Take care my friends...I will try to stop by this weekend.
