Mother's Birthday

Today is my mother's 84th birthday!! What a big birthday for her!! I just talked to her on line and she is ready for the day!!

My poor dad keeps forgetting and had not wished her a Happy Birthday but finally while we were talking he said that it was her birthday and was she going to be 51!! SURE YEAH...younger than both of their kids!!

Mother had a fun childhood but it was messed up with a lot of bad choices of men that her mother, my grandmother picked!! She has some very bad memories!! I sometimes wonder how she made it through some of them.

Mother as a young girl

When I came along then of course I knew what she was talking about! I also got to be in on some of those bad situations!

When Mother married Dad she told him that if there was any drinking that she was out of there. Well she was true to her word. Dad only tried once (I am told)!! That was it!! They have now been married for 64 years. I have always thought that she helped to turn things around which helped Ron and i have good homes with good off spring...her grandchildren.

People can make a bad situation turn around if they just are determined to do so!! I have always been grateful that my life has turned out so well because of things that she did to stop drinking and abuse in her marriage!!

Now they are both having to live each day not knowing what will happen in the next minute. Something that all of us in time will have to do!! Dad is fine some days and then other days he gets all mixed up and thinks that she is me!! Each day is a new surprise for her. Not a great way to live but all those 64 years ago when they made that promise of "for better or for worse" they are both still keeping that promise!!

Happy birthday to Mother today!! HOPE you have a GREAT and WONDERFUL BIRTHDAY!!

LOVE FLIP FLOP!!

Thought for the day: " You cannot change what you cannot admit!"

Happy Birthday to your Mom!!
So sorry about your Dad and his memory. This has to be so hard on her. and the rest of the family.
Nancy has had her insulin shot,
and had lunch. I have a few minutes to write a note.
The rest of the gang are up at a friend of my daughter Carrie. They went swimming! Too much sun for Nancy! Lupus patients are not suppose to be in much sun! Besides it is Hot and humid! Glad you had a great Fourth! Love, Grams

Ok so I am 84 and not 51, as Dad said, think he was just kidding anyway. Have had a good day, I got up front put my bday money in and then was also ask to do the prayer for the day, nice of Mike, he is so thoughtful. We had SS, learning all about Revelations, that is some book. Then it was off to church and had a nice group today, many well wishers for a happy birthday and got sevral cards. We all went to lunch at our favorite restaurant and they sang to me up there too. So has been a good day, guess I will always remember this day. Thanks Sandy for the nice tribute, you are a wonderful daughter, love you so much. Mother

Happy Birthday to your Mom. Life offers many experiences, both good and bad. The bad ones can be good learning experiences. The one about the drinking ultimatum reminded me of an aunt and uncle of mine. There were a lot of alcoholics in the family. When they got married, she told him much the same thing, and they had a wonderful long life together - over 50 years - and he never started drinking. There are somethings people just shouldn't put up with.

Happy Birthday to your Mom. I have first hand experiences with an alcoholic. It's not fun. I'm glad your Mom was able to halt that behavior quickly.

Hope you had a nice 4th.

Hope your mother had a great celebration! The photo of her when she was young, that you shared, is terrific!!

Yep, that is so true, if you don't work with the relationships, bad or good ---they will soon turn sour and no good. Thanks to your mother's diligence and strong will she is now a happy woman of 51 and not aging a bit!!!!

What a precious post...Belated Happy Birthday to your Mom. I loved reading about her and am sorry she had so much sadness to work through. I guess we all can look back at certain times and have some not so good memories either for ourselves or for those we loved. Isn't the love of Jesus wonderful though...he washes our sins away in his own blood and keeps us so safe, no man can pluck us out of his hand. How wonderful too that you still have your parents...

Thanks ladies I really do appreciate what you had to say. Dale and I, if God is willing, we will be celebrating our 65th wedding ann. Jan 12, 2009, feel so special that God let us both live this long and kept us together. YOur words meant so much to me and yes my husband has been a good hubby, Dad and Gpa, so I am very thankful for that. He is a good man indeed. Thanks again. love Jeri Smith (flip flops Mom).
