MONDAY
MEMORIES

My darling husband and I will be married 43 years this coming Thursday the 25th of January!! I am having a really really hard time believing this!! He is having the same problem!! We both do not feel like it has been this long!! How can it be? We are NOT that old!!
We were talking about this the other night in the car and OOOPSS!! We got to thinking JUST how close 50 is !! MAN how did this happen to US!! Just two young kids that first met when we were 14 at at wedding (of all places) and then two years later we were set up by my cousin and his brother!!

We started dating almost right after that first date!! He never dated anyone else and I never dated anyone else. Oh, I had crushes of course and I suppose that he did too but never anything like we had for each other!!

We dated for a LONG and I mean a very LONG 3 years!! We wanted so badly to get married during those 3 LONG LONG years. We were engaged on my 18th birthday in February!! Then getting married became even a more important thought.
FINALLY!! We decided that even though he was just working at a gas station and I was working at a bank that we WERE going to get married no MATTER what anyone had to say about it!!

On January 25, 1964, we had a small wedding at Tuscola, Illinois and finally had both of our wishes come true!! This is one of my favorite pictures from that day because I do not REMEMBER anything from the service at all until this picture. We were coming back down the aisle and I tripped on my beautiful borrowed gown!! I suddenly just came too I guess!! I like how he is trying to help me! I just like the picture...always have...always will...that is why I included it for all to see!!

My memories are so many and sometimes they just get to rattling around in my fuzzy brain the older that I get. (one of my reasons for blogging). We have raised 3 great children ages 42, 39 and 34!! They have good homes and have given us 7 grandchildren for us to love over the years. We have lived in many, many homes and struggled with many, many problems, bills, and health issues but we continue to stick to each other like glue...we know who our glue is...He is the Lord Jesus Christ!! He helps us stick together as Man and Wife!!

People ask me what is the Secret: Hmm.. secret...Our Savior is definitely the biggest helper in our lives. He helps us see our lives through different eyes. We love each other unconditionally. You have to learn to treat your husband as you would want to be treated and to not be one tiny bit selfish!! Never keep secrets...NEVER!! He should know exactly what you know. I cannot keep a secret from my husband...never have and never will...Try to always think of his needs over yours!! Keep romance in your lives...I said romance not necessarily SEX...romance is different if you have not figured that out yet!! Just love each other...how hard can that be anyway????

I hope someday that you will have these great Monday Memories like I am having this week!! It can be done...just remember a couple of weeks ago when my parents celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary!! It can be done!! We plan on going as far as the Good Lord will let us live!! What a blessing!! I feel so priviledged to have been blessed with such a great and wonderful man for all of these years!! Wow!! What a life!!

flip flop feeling INDEED blessed this week!!

Sandy,

I found your post today both touching and refreshing. It's so nice to know that love can endure no matter what time and changes bring. Like you, I think having strong beliefs is important to a lasting marriage.

I hope God blesses you and your hubby with many more years of togetherness! You deserve it!

Hugz!

They're our lifelines in more ways than one.

We are orphans against you "only" 37 years (38 in October). I would add to your recepe of long lasting marriage "compromise" always find compromises if you don't agree with each other. At least in our couple it's very important. We have one son (33) and he is a very nice guy, we can be very proud of him.
It's a pitty that nowadays so many marriages split up ! They divorce for a yes or no. Each couple has his up and downs that's completely normal, but then you can at least try to find a solution.
Good luck with your cat choice !

WOW-congratulations Sandy! Commitment seems to be the thing missing these days. Most people don't want to keep their commitment to love, honor and cherish in all situations.

Blessings to you both and many, many more Happy Anniversaries!!!

Dear Sandy...I just got up for a few minutes and put on the computer. What a lovely story to be reading first thing in the morning..Indeed a REAL love story.
You and your husband are so blessed and like you say it is the Lord's doing..

I imagine, seeing that you were so young to begin with that people told you it was just "puppy love" but those people would sure be eating their words now,eh?

As I have been reading your postings for the last few months Sandy I have read in between the lines the deep love that you have for your husband and your family. It just fairly ripples from the pages like tiny waves.

I will not wish you a Happy Anniversary until Thursday but I will have THAT day marked on my calendar for sure and If I can get through all the traffic to your blog site, I will be here to wish you and your darling a good happy one!!....Love Terry

What a blessing God has given you in your marriage. I too married my high school sweetheart. We met when I was 15, he 1s 17. Got married at 16 and 18. Had our first of three sons at 17 and 19. I love this man more everyday. He is the love of my life. We share three sons, three beautiful daughters-in-law and seven awesome grandchildren. Four girls and three boys. Love them to pieces. I just came upon your blog by accident. Enjoyed reading.
