Thursday Thirteen

Things about ME that
start with the letter T!!!

  1. TIRED: Yeap lately...badly!! If I had not been so "stupid" and quit my medication cold turkey then i would not have been this pooped!! I am so much better now!! YES!!
  2. TREES: I love, love, love TREES...the more around me the happier that I am. We have only tall...very tall pine trees..that fall over when the wind gets high!! Scary. One landed on our house and made a large mess of our deck and our roof!! I miss those big real leafy trees...!!
  3. TEA: GREEN diet Liptons tea!! I drink TONS of it...or quarts maybe is a better word here. I LOVE it!!
  4. TELLER: I was a teller at our small bank in Illinois right out of high school. From then on I was a teller at many banks over the years!! Finally with all of the bank robberies over drugs, I decided that i needed out of that area.
  5. TELEVISION: My favorite!! I have loved it ever since I saw my FIRST one. We did not have TV when i was real little but finally we did get one. Black and white of course!! We would put aluminum foil on the antennae to try to get decent service. Remember "Captain Kangaroo"? We watched a cartoon character that had to have a plastic film that you put over the screen. You had to send in and order it SPECIAL. (mother always kept it rolled up under our couch) I have been trying to think of his name. You had special crayons that you drew a bridge for him when he needed to cross the water!! Does anyone remember that character!! ?? I want to say his name was Winky Dinky!! What fun!! I also remember the first color TV show that I saw.."Bonanza" and "Hawaii Five O" Long time ago!!
  6. TONSILS: When i was five i had my tonsils out!! I remember this event really well. You know back then we did not get the WONDERFUL gifts that kids get nowadays..instead i received a new pair of under panties. I was so delighted with them, that when I had my first visitor, I stood up and pulled up my hospital gown and proudly showed them off!! I guess the man that was my visitor just passed away not long ago...Also i remember having to eat vanilla wafers (crumbling them up)!! Oh and Ice Cream too!!
  7. TORNADO: I have seen and been in WAY TOO MANY OF THESE!! I was in the first one when I was very young!! I remember my dad getting my mother, brother and myself and hurrying us out of our house in the country in Illinois. I had to run back into the front room and get my doll Toni. She was sitting on top of our big old piano!! Later when we came back (next day) the wall where my brother had been in bed fell in...wow!! Since then there have been more and more of these events in my life. I really do not like tornadoes at all!!
  8. TODDY (hot): I was about 8 or so. I was staying with my grandmother, MOM. I had developed a bad cold. Mom decided to fix me a hot toddy!! You make it with whiskey, water, lemon and honey. Mom decided that she would add just a wee bit more whiskey. Well that was enough to make me DRUNK!! I remember falling asleep really really quick..Good news...when I did wake up..My cold was gone!!
  9. TENT: Hubby and i only stayed in a tent ONCE and that was the last time. We had a van and the kids were sleeping in it!! It was a very hot night. We were on vacation to Six Flags over St. Louis. It started raining, lightning, thunder...bad storm. We flooded!!! We had to run for the van. Hubby slept in the front over both of the seats and I, well i just slept wherever i could get!! What a night!!
  10. TIARA: I have one!! I got it in high school for a very special event!!
  11. TIMELY: I love being on time!! Also i really expect others to do the same. I think it is extremely rude!! My blog..My opinion!!
  12. THANKFUL: The older I get the more i am learning to be thankful for what i have!!
13. TRUSTWORTHY & TRUTHFUL: Yeap that is me!! Don't believe in lying!! It never gets you any place except in trouble!!

Thought for today: "Being happy doesn't mean everythings perfect. It means you've decided to see beyond the imperfections."

I would not go in a tent to save my butt! I want the comfort of a bed, with sheets and the drone of other people in the next room...in other words, motel room when I camp out.

[altho when I was a kid we used to go camping, the best part of that was having my dog snuggle in my sleeping bag too!!]

I am soooooo sad that TIRED is still your FIRST "T" word! I really want you to feel better again!

I'm "tired" today too -- but I have had two straight weeks of taking care of Luz. Much as I LOVE her, THAT little peanut can wear a body out!!! I'm looking forward to starting our 2-day-weeks next week! I think two days a week is PERFECT for this Nana! (I'm thinkin' two days a week is perfect for my Floozie too!) LOL!

Have a GREAT day, my friend!

HI....I was blog surfing and ran across your blog and racked my brain to try to remember the cartoon also and found out some more about it on Wiki....

Winky Dink and You
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search

"Winky Dink And You" was a CBS television children's show that aired from 1953 to 1957. It was hosted by Jack Barry, and featured the exploits of a cartoon character named Winky Dink (voiced by Mae Questel) and his dog Woofer. The show, created by Harry Prichett, Sr. and Ed Wyckoff, featured Barry and his sidekick, the incompetent Mr. Bungle (Dayton Allen), introducing clips of Winky Dink, noted for his plaid pants, tousled hair, and large eyes.

Praised by Microsoft mogul Bill Gates as "the first interactive TV show", the show's central gimmick was the use of a "magic drawing screen", which was a large piece of vinyl plastic which held on the television screen via static electricity. A kit containing the screen and various Winky Dink crayons could be purchased for 50 cents. At a climactic scene in every Winky Dink short, Winky would arrive upon a scene which contained a connect the dot picture. He would then prompt the children at home to complete the picture, and the finished result would help him continue the story. Examples include drawing a bridge to cross a river, an axe to chop down a tree, or a cage to trap a dangerous lion. Many children would omit the Magic Screen and draw on the television screen itself, to the annoyance of their parents.

Another use of the interactive screen was sending secret messages to the viewers. A screen would appear, showing only the vertical lines of the letters of the secret message, which viewers at home would quickly trace onto their magic screen. A second screen would then reveal the horizontal lines, which would complete the text.

A final use of the screen was to create the outline of a character with whom Jack Barry would have a conversation. It would seem meaningless to viewers without the screen, further encouraging its purchase.

The program was wildly successful because of its pioneering interactive marketing scheme, and Winky Dink became one of television's most popular characters of the 1950s. The show was revived in syndication for 65 episodes beginning in 1969 and ending in 1973. However, the show's production was halted despite its modest popularity due to concerns about radiation in television sets affecting children and because of parents' complaints about children drawing on the screen.

In the 1990s, a new "Winky Dink Kit" emerged on the market, containing a magic screen, crayons, and all-new digitized Winky Dink and You episodes.

I so enjoyed reading your TT list! I don't blame you for getting away from working in a bank, too many robberies occurring to this day! I had never heard of Winky Dink so I read Blogging Butterfly's comment with interest...it ended the year I was born so maybe that's why I never heard of it. lol I was 2 when I had my tonsils taken out and mom says she remembers when she and dad would come visit me at the hospital...they could hear me crying for daddy from down the hall! lol I remember dad giving orange Popsicles:-) What a terrible experience you had sleeping in a tent...we did a lot of camping when I was younger, dad had bought a tent trailer after he sold our little cottage. The last time I slept in a tent was in 1989...not sure if I'd like it now! xox

Hi Sandy. Hope you're feeling much better now.

I think tornadoes are frightening. I'm thankful that it is rare in our country.

Thank you for taking time to visit me.

Sure don't blame ya for walking away from it it is getting crazy out there. So glad to see you thriving and doing well. I always think of you when I see flip flops it is so funny to pray for you over a flip flop. It stuck though. I hope that your day is a beautiful one.
