MY FRIEND BETTY

I am posting a little late tonight. I am tired not really physically but I think more emotionally and mentally worn!! I have been at the hospital most of this weekend. I think just being there and trying to do what you can wears your emotions and mostly your heart strings way out!!

My friend Betty was taken to the hospital here in Savannah Friday morning after experiencing a series of mini strokes. She found out last November that she had cancer in her lungs. She went through a series of chemo only to get to the end and discover that it had spread to her broncihical tubes. It had also spread to her lymph nodes and adrenal glands. I went with her to the doctor only to discover that it had also spread to her brain. That was a very trying day for each of us.

The next week she had a bone scan and was told that it was also in her right leg in her femur. In other words, it was spreading all over her body.

She just has endured some of the worst news that any one person can have but has come out shining!! Her attitude and bravery has been one that anyone would love to have. I have been so blessed to watch this brave woman go through all of this life crisis but still have a smile on her face. She has been a blessing to everyone that has come into her path. I have been so blessed to have been one of those people. I have been blessed to be one of her friends too.

Now we are all there for her. We come and go to the hospital helping do what we can. Sometimes her room is filled with people from her small group, people from our church, friends or her children. She has 1 daughter and 3 sons that she has raised on her own. She has many many good friends that are there helping in any way that they can find to help. We are hugging and coming together to help these 4 kids in any and every way that we can find to help them.

They are facing a lot of questions and difficulties that they are going to have to deal with. This morning they were told and Betty was also told that there was nothing more that could be done. She is to go to Hospice now. We all knew that this was coming.

I was coming into the hospital and God placed a friend coming out just at the right time so that I would be prepared for what I was going to see. God has done that for me two days in a row now. My friend told me that Betty and her family had just been told that there was nothing more that could be done. My friend told me to just go in and hug on everyone and cry along with them. Those of you that know me, know that I cry very easily so that is what I did.

I really do hate it when men cry so the boys were in tears and well that is really hard for me. Crying was what went on most of today!! Betty looked worse today!! Her breathing is bad but she is talking and also eating by herself until she gets tired and her son helps her from then on.

Like I said she is very brave and does not give up easily. That is my friend Betty. I think she is holding on for her kids. One son is not here yet. I believe she is waiting for him. If you could please pray for her and especially for her 3 sons and her daughter. They need your prayers especially now. Betty is going to be going to a great place and it is going to be very soon. We, her good friends will be missing a great friend!! I am going to miss her terribly!!

FLIP FLOP SAD TODAY!!

I'm praying for all involved here. It's sad. However, I am rejoicing that she'll be able to be cancer-free in heaven. May God use all of you to help this family go through this journey.

Hugs,

Hello Dear Sandy....

What a heartfelt posting. May the Lord help and comfort Betty in these days of great sadness and may her family and you too, be given strength to cope with her loss when the time comes. In the meantime Sandy, I’m sure your visits brighten her day enormously. This is going to be very precious times with her now. God you bless you and your dear friend. - Marion

Dear Sandy, I'm so sorry for your friend Betty and her family and friends. Going through this is so difficult for everyone, but especially for the loved ones and friends. You see the pain of your friend and there's nothing you can do but love on them and pray. You are truly doing all there is, by being there for her and the family, you are being a true friend right now. Your friend and her family are in my prayers as are you. Hugs!

Dear Sandy, I know exactly what you're going through...I went through the same thing with my best friend Jane who passed away at the age of 40 from cancer. Watching her waste away and knowing there was nothing that could be done for her was the hardest thing ever!! My prayers are with you and Betty. xoxo
