LIFE AND ITS UPS AND DOWNS

Being at the hospital so much lately I have seen many, many elevators. One night as I was going out with a friend, she looked at the down button and remarked, " Isn't this LIFE sometimes?" I have been thinking about her remarks for a couple of days now. I thought Yes unfortunately at times this is LIFE. We ride along fine for a bit and then something horrible comes into our lives and just like this elevator button things seem to just ride DOWN in our lives.

The more I thought about this silly elevator button the more I could not seem to get it off of my mind. My mind these past few days has just been filled with so many many things. I have learned new facts on how to feed someone the right way, what potassium means, how it burns when they put it into your veins, what THICK IT is, How to make someone laugh who is so sick, how to be there, how to hug someone you hardly know, how to try to keep everyone updated, how to try to help your friend breathe, how to love unconditionally, how to sleep and wake up in the morning feeling like you never had any at all, how to keep going when you want to lay down, how to talk to young men and love them, how to try not to cry but do it anyway, how to watch your friend as she lay dying. That is the hardest one and I am still trying to learn that one.

Life is down for me right now but I know that it is not always going to be like this. I know that God has plans for Betty. I know that she is a Christian and that soon she is going to be with HIM. I know that whatever pain she has is soon going to be gone and she is going to be rejoicing with him in heaven. She is going to just get there before the rest of us...her friends. I know all of this but it just does not make the hurt go away!!

But then LIFE does have the UP times!! I am so blessed to have the BEST of husbands!! He knows that I need to be with my friend now and he has not said one word against my being there. He knows that is my need for now. I am blessed to have a family that will always support me no matter what.

When you are in a situation like this you also remember how well you are!! I am so blessed for the good health that I have. I went to Curves this morning and worked out and felt so good afterwards. I knew that I needed this to keep myself going. I am so fortunate that I can do this. I am healthy!! Praise God!! I have healthy parents, great friends and a great home to live in. Yeap life is UP also!! My Blessings overflow. I am sure that yours do too.

UPDATE ON BETTY: They are transferring her to Hospice today. I am not sure exactly when but I will be going to find out this afternoon. I decided to take this morning off and get some things done here at home. I never know when I leave her if I will see her again here or in Heaven!! Thanks everyone for stopping by and praying....

FLIP FLOP!!

I think you are doing something so wonderful. I pray that while it is a "down" time, that you are also blessed beyond measure. May God bless you all as you minister to one another.

When I read this post, I kept singing that old hymn: "When peace like a river attendeth my way/When sorrow like sea billows roll/Whatever my lot/Thou hast taught me to say/It is well/It is well with my soul!"

My all be well with your friend's soul today.

Blessings and a BIG HUG to you!

:-) Susan

I really liked what you said today about Life's UP's and Down's, beause that is what it is like! God is there for both times.Isn't HE good all the time! He cares for us when things are going good or bad,and gives up comfort for the sad times! My prayers are with you and your friend Betty.

You are so right...life is a mixture of ups and downs and we must accept both. When we see a friend who is so ill, it really does make us realize how very lucky we are that we are healthy and not in their condition. I'm glad you are there for her!! xoxo

P S S --to answer your question about cutting my long hair....it's been short for about 1 year and 1/2 now. My hair is really thick and heavy and I got tired of working with it all the time.

I know this week has been a hard one for you Sandy and I do understand. I remember the first friend I lost in High School, we were all just devastated to think a young person still in their teens was going to leave us. But she left and since then I have lost many others and it does not get any easier at all. Just know you can be there for Betty and know she will always remember you. You will always be in her heart and she will always be in yours. Just keep the faith and know she is going to a much better place and someday we will all be there together. Much Love Mother

I am sorry Betty is going through the valley now but daybreak is coming as you said. May every mercy of God be hers and may you see them to have for keepsakes in your heart.

You are a wonderful friend and Betty is blessed, as I'm sure are in knowing her. Sorry to hear that this has taken this course, and may you both have peace, grace and strength.

Life does have its share of ups and downs but its easier to go through the low moments when you have true friends beside you. I'm sure Betty is very grateful to have you beside her during this time.
