Mrs. Wilkes Boarding House

My hubby and I had old friends stop by yesterday. They were on their way to Florida. They called to see if they could stop by and see us!! YES!! Was my big answer!! I love having company and especially people that I have known for so many, many years. I have known Dick for a LONNNNGGG time. He remembers my children when they were small...does that tell you anything?? They are all grown now !!

They got here yesterday afternoon while I was taking care of Madison and Garrett. We had a great afternoon of sharing stories and talking about OLD times!! Garrett had a few melt-downs where I had to call MOMMY!! But like Garrett's old self (he is almost 6) once you feed that guy he is SO MUCH BETTER!!

Hubby did not get home until 8:00...yeap 8:00 and here we have company and supper waiting and waiting and waiting on him. My roast was very, very, VERY tender by the time we got to it!! We were all starved!! The kids daddy came to pick them up so we just all ate together.

Today after hubby left for work, Dick, Karen and I left for downtown and stood in line at Mrs. Wilkes. I had always wanted to go there but did not want to go by myself. Mrs. Wikes passed away a few years ago. I had heard it was not as good since she died, wow!! It must have been wonderful then because today it was GRAND!!

You sit "Family Style" in tables. It is loaded with dishes upon dishes of everything from okra to black-eyed peas (my favorite); meatloaf, fried chicken (my least favorite); Dick counted 20 dishes in all!! Plus it is not expensive either!! We did not have any breakfast and really that is all that I have had to eat all this day so far!! We had banana pudding for dessert. It was really really delicious!!!! Dick had a great conversation with one of the people that we sat with....I love to talk as most of you know...but OH that food was so good that I really was not into talking at all!! EATING was my main focus.

If you are ever in Savannah....go down to Jones Street about 10:30 and stand in line there. It is really, really worth your time.

I took them around a little bit. They had been several places before but I did have a few places that they did not know about. They wanted to get on the road so off to my house we went.

This afternoon I have been taking down all signs of Christmas from around our house. We did not put up much this year. I got out all of our boxes that hold our Christmas stuff and threw away a lot of things that I have been hanging onto for all of these years...things that I do not need to keep. Tootsie called and she was doing the same thing. She wanted to know if I wanted a couple of things. I said Oh please I do not need anything, BUT when she said she had a SNOWMAN fireplace cover....WELL I relented and boy is it ever cute!! I love snowmen!! They are so fat and fluffy!!

I hope ya'll have recovered from Christmas!! Ours was calm and pretty quiet just the way that I like it!! I hope that you had a great one!! Now for the NEW YEAR!! I cannot believe it is going to be 2007!! Man that sounds so futuristic!! I never thought I would live to see such a year...but so far I am still among the living!! smile!!

FLIP FLOP FLOOZIE FULL TODAY!!

Oh, that sounds like a heavenly place! I'm drooooooling all over my keyboard!

So you're putting away all xmas decorations already? We don't do that so early here in Sweden. Not until the beginning of January.
